Tadjik mobile operators said on August 20 that SIM cards' cost would be increased in 50 times in Tajikistan since September 1, 2018, so the citizens of the poor Asian country must pay up to 26 dollars (that is about 250 Tajikistani somoni, local currency) for new SIM. But SIM cards that people already had, luckily, won't increased in cost, but every person would be able to have no more then two SIM cards of the same telephone operator; and if a person wanted to readdress owner of a SIM to other person, then they must pay the 26 dollars. Every SIM also needs, of course, passport for obtaining (as it was adopted long ago), so this new measure has target by Tajikistani Government as if to fight terrorism after recent murder of four foreign tourists in Dang‘ara District last July, because the government thinks this expensive price add more order in the SIM card circulation. But for Tadjik people, especially students, who will buy their first mobile, this be very hard to gather money for such SIM card, so this measure just looks as a new additional tool to control free information on the web.

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFERL) reported in 2015, that RFERL websites, YouTube, social networks were inaccessible in Tajikistan.
